New Lima - Housing For The Future was incorporated in December of 2000. In September of 2003 they hired their first Director and became certified by the City of Lima as its Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). New Lima is charged with the responsibility of developing safe and affordable housing opportunities for LMI (Low/Moderate Income), citizens.
New Lima partnered with Miller-Valentine Group (a for profit developer), on a 2003 low-income housing tax credit project that included the development of a 32 single family subdivision and a 28 unit scattered site development in south Lima. The project was named New Lima Homes and was completed in 2005.
In 2006, New Lima secured the vacated Whittier School site for development of a new subdivision to included 12 newly constructed homes for low/moderate income families. New Lima subdivided and developed the land and constructed 7 houses. By 2012, 2 of the 7 Whittier Place houses had sold, however, due to decrease in the real estate market, the 5 remaining homes were still for sale. New Lima created a new approach to the sale of these homes and developed a new funding program whereas New Lima would fund the financing of these remaining homes with qualified buyers. The program was approved by the City of Lima and HUD. The final house sold in August 2014. The remaining lots at Whittier Place were donated to Habitat for Humanity - where they built 3 houses.
New Lima became a State Certified CHDO in February 2006 and partnered with Miller-Valentine Group on a 28-unit scattered rental site community in Montgomery County, Stoney Ridge Estates. New Lima was again certified as a State CHDO in 2011 - 2013 and 2015.
New Lima purchased the vacated Lowell School site from the Shirley Daley Foundation in 2009 for a possible 24-unit senior rental community. In 2010 New Lima began to pursue funding opportunities using NSP1 funds available from the State of Ohio. In 2011, New Lima partnered with WSOS and received funding in the form of NSP1, NSP2 and HOME funds. Construction on the Shirley Daley Senior Village was completed in December 2012.
